It is the policy of the company that small business suppliers, including Small Disadvantaged Businesses, Woman-Owned Small Business, Veteran-Owned Small Businesses, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses, Historically Black Colleges and Universities /Minority Institutions, and Historically Underutilized Business Zone Businesses, shall have the maximum practicable opportunity to participate in the procurement process for the company's purchases for materials, supplies, and services, consistent with the goals of the company and its customers.

USA has purchased over $2 billion in goods and services from small businesses throughout the country since its inception. This number is more than 27 percent of the total sub contract dollars paid under USA’s contract. Products and services supplied by these companies range from simple to complex, from hand tools and astronaut clothing to components of the fuel cells and main engines. They provide ground support items used every day and customized flight hardware that is used only in orbit.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has rated USA’s small business program as “outstanding,” and USA plays a crucial role in the SBA’s regional outreach programs. For example, USA is working closely with the SBA on Service-Disabled Veteran Owned and Veteran Owned small businesses, to identify, develop and subcontract with more of these qualified businesses.

USA is committed to maintaining a diverse base of suppliers and expanding opportunities for small businesses in support of current and future programs. These suppliers generally offer competitive pricing and lower overhead while meeting the rigorous demands of providing products and services to the space program. This broad network of vendors also supports USA’s corporate commitment to enrich local communities.
