DNV Audit Successfully Completed

In recent weeks, USA successfully completed a recertification audit to the AS9100 and ISO9001 International Standards for Quality and the ISO 14001 International Standard for the Environment. The audit also validated that USA has successfully upgraded its Quality Management System (QMS) from the 2004 version to the 2008 revision of the ISO 9001 standard. The audit was conducted by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an independent foundation with the purpose of safeguarding life, property and the environment and a global provider of services for managing risk.

A full set of recertification audits is conducted every three years in Alabama, Florida and Texas with periodic audits conducted every six months to test the ongoing robustness of the management system. The results of the most recent audit were outstanding with only a few minor nonconformances identified.

After reviewing the effectiveness of the corrective actions for the seven findings identified during the AS9100 audit, DNV verified and closed the items, allowing them to recommend USA for a new AS9100 certificate, and the current registration will remain intact. This important goal was accomplished in three weeks as compared the normal 90-day process period.

The effectiveness of the USA management system relies on our management’s commitment to produce products and services for space operations that are safe, on time and error free. A common set of core functional policies and procedures now fully integrates the USA quality, safety and environmental management systems. In 2004, USA was one of the first contractors to proactively upgrade certification to include the additional flight safety requirements of the AS9100 standard prior to any contractual requirement for compliance.

In 2007, to help enable better stewardship of our impact to the environment, USA also voluntarily upgraded our Environmental Management System (EMS) to meet the requirements of ISO 14001. USA’s integrated approach to QMS and EMS certification and process improvement supports our continuing mission to provide safe, high-quality, best-value space operations, services and technologies to our customers.

This completes the recertification process for both the USA Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
